The Langtang Valley Trek is one of Nepal’s most accessible yet remarkably scenic trekking adventures, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty cultural immersion and Himalayan tranquility. Located north of Kathmandu near the Tibetan border, the Langtang region is known for its dramatic landscapes traditional Tamang and Tibetan-influenced villages and stunning mountain scenery, making it an excellent choice for trekkers seeking an enriching experience within a shorter timeframe.

The journey begins in Kathmandu with a guided tour of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, providing insight into Nepal’s rich history and culture. A scenic drive then leads to Syabrubesi, the starting point of the trek. From here, the trail follows the Langtang River, passing through lush forests of oak pine and rhododendron terraced farmlands and charming villages such as Lama Hotel and Langtang Village. Along the way, trekkers are treated to breathtaking views of Langtang Lirung Ganesh Himal and surrounding peaks.

As the trail ascends, the landscape gradually transforms into alpine terrain, leading to the spiritual heart of the region Kyanjin Gompa. This serene mountain settlement is surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks and glaciers. Trekkers have the opportunity to explore the monastery visit the local cheese factory and enjoy short acclimatization hikes. A highlight of the trek is the early morning hike to Tserko Ri, which rewards trekkers with spectacular sunrise views over the Langtang range and the Tibetan plateau beyond.

The Langtang region holds deep cultural significance, with strong Tibetan Buddhist influences reflected in monasteries prayer wheels mani walls and daily life. The trek also includes a visit to Langtang Village, which was tragically affected by the 2015 earthquake and has since been rebuilt through the resilience and determination of the local community. This visit offers a meaningful insight into local life and the spirit of recovery.

This 11-day trek is considered moderately challenging and is suitable for trekkers with good physical fitness. The gradual altitude gain allows for proper acclimatization reducing the risk of altitude-related issues. Accommodation is provided in comfortable teahouses along the route offering warm hospitality and traditional meals.

The best seasons for the Langtang Valley Trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when weather conditions are stable and mountain views are at their clearest. With its close proximity to Kathmandu stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage, the Langtang Valley Trek offers a rewarding Himalayan experience for both first-time and experienced trekkers.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Kathmandu and Transfer to Hotel

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, a representative of Conqueri Treks & Expedition will be waiting outside the arrival gate to welcome you. You will be transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu. After check-in, you may rest or explore the nearby area at your leisure. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Day 2

Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing Tour

After breakfast, enjoy a guided cultural tour of the Kathmandu Valley, visiting important UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In the morning, you will explore Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple and Swayambhunath, which beautifully reflect Nepal’s Hindu and Buddhist traditions.

In the afternoon, visit Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square, showcasing traditional architecture and historical significance. Return to the hotel in the evening. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Day 3

Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,550 m / 5,085 ft) – 7–8 Hours

Travel by bus or private vehicle to Syabrubesi, the starting point of the Langtang Valley Trek. The scenic drive follows the Trishuli River, where you may spot whitewater rafters along the way. As you approach Trisuli Bazaar, enjoy distant views of the Manaslu Massif, Ganesh Himal, Jugal Himal and Langtang Range.

The road becomes rough after Dhunche, but the mountain scenery makes the journey worthwhile. Overnight stay in Syabrubesi.

Day 4

Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,380 m / 7,808 ft) – 6 Hours

Begin your trek through lush forests of bamboo and rhododendron, following the Langtang Khola. The trail gradually ascends with Langtang Lirung dominating the skyline. Passing small settlements and waterfalls, you reach Lama Hotel, surrounded by dense forest. Overnight stay at Lama Hotel.

Day 5

Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village (3,430 m / 11,253 ft) – 7 Hours

The trail continues through forests before reaching Ghora Tabela, once used as a horse stable. As the valley opens up, enjoy views of towering Himalayan peaks.

The trek then reaches Langtang Village, which was severely affected by the 2015 earthquake but has since been rebuilt. The village now features monasteries, schools, small markets and a community health post. Overnight stay in Langtang Village or nearby Mundu.

Day 6

Trek from Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 m / 12,696 ft) – 3 Hours

Today’s walk is short and scenic. The trail is lined with chortens, prayer flags, mani walls, yak pastures and water mills. Enjoy stunning views of glaciers and surrounding peaks as you reach Kyanjin Gompa, the spiritual heart of the Langtang Valley.

Arriving by lunchtime allows time to relax or explore nearby areas. Overnight stay in Kyanjin Gompa.

Day 7

Hike to Tserko Ri (5,000 m / 16,404 ft) and Return to Kyanjin Gompa – 8–9 Hours

An early start for the challenging but rewarding hike to Tserko Ri. From the summit, enjoy panoramic views of over 20 Himalayan peaks, frozen lakes and the entire Langtang Valley.

After spending time at the viewpoint, descend carefully back to Kyanjin Gompa for a well-earned rest. Overnight stay in Kyanjin Gompa.

Day 8

Trek from Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel (2,380 m / 7,808 ft) – 6–7 Hours

Retrace your steps through Langtang Village and forested trails, crossing streams and descending steadily back to Lama Hotel. After the previous day’s strenuous hike, today’s descent is more relaxed. Overnight stay at Lama Hotel.

Day 9

Trek from Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi (1,550 m / 5,085 ft) – 6–7 Hours

On the final trekking day, return to Syabrubesi. You may choose between two routes:

  • The original forest trail via Bamboo and Rimche, or
  • A shorter but steeper route via Rimche and Sherpa Gaun, offering excellent valley views.

The route will be selected based on weather and group stamina. Overnight stay in Syabrubesi.

Day 10

Drive from Syabrubesi to Kathmandu (1,380 m / 4,572 ft) – 8–9 Hours

After breakfast, drive back to Kathmandu along the scenic mountain highway. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. You may enjoy free time for shopping or relaxation. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Day 11

Final Departure from Kathmandu

A representative of Conqueri Treks & Expedition will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport at least three hours before your scheduled flight. Depart Nepal with unforgettable memories of the Langtang Valley Trek.
