Located just east of the classic Annapurna Base Camp route, the Mardi Himal Trek is a serene and less-traveled trekking adventure in the Annapurna region, ideal for trekkers seeking natural beauty away from crowded trails. This short yet rewarding trek leads to Mardi Himal Base Camp, situated beneath the towering peaks of Mardi Himal and the iconic Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), offering some of the most impressive close-range mountain views in the region.

The journey begins from the foothills near Pokhara and follows well-defined yet peaceful trails through lush rhododendron and oak forests. During spring, these forests come alive with colorful blossoms, creating a vibrant and scenic walking experience. As the trail ascends gradually, it passes through traditional settlements and quiet teahouse stops, allowing trekkers to enjoy the calm atmosphere of the lower Annapurna region.

At approximately 3,300 meters, the trek rises above the tree line, revealing an open alpine landscape with dramatic ridges and panoramic Himalayan views. From this point onward, trekkers are rewarded with uninterrupted vistas of Mardi Himal, Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and neighboring peaks. The trail becomes narrower and more rugged, adding a sense of adventure while remaining non-technical and suitable for trekkers with good physical fitness.

High Camp, located at 3,580 meters, serves as the final overnight stop before reaching Mardi Himal Base Camp. An early morning hike of approximately three to four hours leads to the base camp, where trekkers experience breathtaking close-up views of the Annapurna massif rising directly above. The dramatic mountain scenery and peaceful surroundings make this one of the most memorable viewpoints in the Annapurna region.

Accommodation along the Mardi Himal Trek is provided in simple teahouses and local homestays, offering warm hospitality and basic yet comfortable facilities. Meals are freshly prepared and typically include traditional Nepali dishes along with common international options. During the winter season, it is advisable to confirm lodge availability in advance due to limited services at higher elevations.

The Mardi Himal Trek is suitable for both beginner and experienced trekkers who have a reasonable level of fitness. The best seasons to undertake this trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when weather conditions are stable and mountain views are at their clearest. With its tranquil trails, dramatic landscapes and stunning Himalayan panoramas, the Mardi Himal Trek offers a truly rewarding trekking experience in the Annapurna region.
