The Manaslu Circuit Trek in 14 days is one of Nepal’s most spectacular and less-crowded trekking adventures offering an authentic Himalayan journey around Mount Manaslu which rises to 8,163 meters and ranks as the eighth-highest mountain in the world. The trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola followed by a gradual ascent along the Budi Gandaki River. The trail winds through traditional Gurung and Tibetan-influenced villages including Jagat Namrung Lho Sama Gaun and Samdo. Itinerary
Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu – Transfer to Hotel
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative and trekking guide. After the airport reception, you will be transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu.
In the evening, the guide will provide a detailed briefing about the Manaslu Circuit Trek, including the trekking route, daily activities, safety measures and altitude considerations. Necessary trekking permits will be reviewed, and your trekking gear will be checked to ensure proper preparation for the journey ahead. Overnight stay: Hotel in Kathmandu.
Drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola (890m)
Duration: 9–10 hours drive by jeep or local bus. After an early breakfast, we begin our scenic drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola via Arughat and Soti Khola. The journey follows the Trishuli River and later the Budhi Gandaki River, offering beautiful views of hills, terraced rice fields, rivers and rural villages.
As the drive progresses, the landscape gradually changes into warmer lowland regions. Machha Khola, located in the Gorkha district of western Nepal, is a small riverside settlement surrounded by green valleys. Overnight stay: Local guesthouse at Machha Khola.
Trek from Machha Khola to Jagat (1,410m)
Distance: 13.5 km | Duration: 6–8 hours
The trek begins by following the Budhi Gandaki River upstream. Passing through narrow trails and small villages, we reach Khorla Besi, a charming farming settlement. The trail then continues on a pleasant winding path to Tatopani, a natural hot spring where trekkers may enjoy a relaxing bath if time permits.
After a short rest, the trail continues through Yaruphant and crosses a suspension bridge before reaching Jagat. Jagat is a moderately sized village with shops, teahouses and a checkpoint for the Manaslu Conservation Area. Overnight stay: Guesthouse in Jagat.
Trek from Jagat to Deng (1,800m)
Distance: 20 km | Duration: 7–9 hours
From Jagat, the trail gradually ascends through several small villages, including Sirdibas Bazaar. The route includes both ascents and descents, crossing suspension bridges and forested sections.
After reaching Nagjet, the trail climbs steadily to Philim, a large village with terraced farmlands and scattered farmhouses. Continuing onward through golden fields of wheat and barley, the trail ascends along a rocky ridge and enters bamboo forest areas before reaching Deng village. Overnight stay: Guesthouse in Deng.
Trek from Deng to Namrung (2,660m)
Distance: 19 km | Duration: 7–8 hours
Leaving Deng, the trail passes through dense forests and numerous Tibetan mani walls intricately carved with Buddhist scriptures. The path weaves through narrow gorges and open valleys as the altitude gradually increases.
As the trail ascends, the vegetation changes to fir, oak and rhododendron forests. Namrung is a beautiful settlement that offers the first impressive views of Manaslu and surrounding peaks. Overnight stay: Guesthouse in Namrung.
Trek from Namrung to Shyala (3,520m)
Distance: 18 km | Duration: 7–8 hours
After breakfast, the trek continues gradually uphill through spectacular mountain landscapes. We pass through the culturally rich village of Lho, known for its traditional Tibetan-style houses and the impressive Ribung Monastery.
From Lho, the trail continues with breathtaking views of Mount Manaslu, prayer flags, chortens and surrounding peaks. Shyala is a scenic village set in a wide alpine valley, offering some of the closest and most stunning views of Mount Manaslu. Overnight stay: Guesthouse in Shyala.
Trek from Shyala to Samagaun (3,885m) via Pungyen Monastery
Distance: 17 km | Duration: 6–8 hours
After breakfast, we hike to the sacred Pungyen Monastery, located beneath the Manaslu Glacier. The monastery reflects the deep spiritual traditions of Tibetan Buddhism and offers a peaceful atmosphere with dramatic mountain scenery.
After visiting the monastery, the trail continues through pine and juniper forests with magnificent views of snow-covered peaks before reaching the large village of Samagaun. Overnight stay: Guesthouse in Samagaun.
Acclimatization Day at Samagaun – Hike to Manaslu Base Camp (4,800m)
Distance: 13.5 km | Duration: 5–6 hours
This is a crucial acclimatization day before crossing the high Larkya La Pass. Today, we hike to Manaslu Base Camp, located at the foot of the world’s eighth-highest mountain.
The trail passes Birendra Lake and continues uphill to the base camp, offering breathtaking views of glaciers and surrounding peaks. This hike is physically demanding but extremely rewarding.
Trekkers are advised to carry sufficient water, packed lunch, warm clothing, trekking poles, sunglasses, gloves and a warm hat. Overnight stay: Guesthouse in Samagaun.
Trek from Samagaun to Samdo (3,860m)
Distance: 5 km | Duration: 4–5 hours
The Trek is relatively short and gradual, leading to Samdo, the last permanent village before crossing the Larkya La Pass. Located near the Tibetan border, Samdo offers insight into Tibetan-influenced culture, customs and monasteries.
The village is known for its scenic surroundings and traditional lifestyle. Overnight stay: Guesthouse in Samdo.
Trek from Samdo to Dharmasala / Larkya Phedi (4,460m)
Distance: 6 km | Duration: 4–5 hours
After breakfast, the trail crosses an icy stream and ascends gradually through barren alpine terrain. The walk is relatively short but involves a noticeable altitude gain.
Dharmasala, also known as Larkya Phedi, serves as the base camp for crossing the Larkya La Pass. The afternoon is free for rest or a short acclimatization hike. It is recommended to ascend at least 200 meters to help prepare for the next day. Overnight stay: Basic lodge at Dharmasala.
Trek from Dharmasala to Larkya La Pass (5,106m) and descend to Bhimthang (3,790m
Distance: 16 km | Duration: 7–9 hours
An early start is essential for this long and challenging day. The climb to Larkya La Pass is strenuous but offers spectacular views of Mount Manaslu, Larkya Peak, Bouddha Himal, Himalchuli and Peak 29.
At the summit, prayer flags mark the pass, creating a memorable and rewarding moment. After enjoying the views, the trail descends steeply toward Bhimthang. The descent can be slippery, so trekking poles and crampons are highly recommended. Overnight stay: Guesthouse in Bhimthang.
Trek from Bhimthang to Tilje (2,300m) and Drive to Besisahar
Distance: 13 km | Duration: 4–5 hours trek | Drive: 3 hours
After crossing the high pass, today’s walk is mostly downhill and relaxing. The trail passes through rhododendron, pine and oak forests, farm settlements, and crosses the Phurke Khola.
The route joins the Annapurna Circuit Trail before reaching Tilje village. From Tilje, we take a shared jeep to Besisahar. Overnight stay: Local guesthouse.
Drive from Besisahar to Kathmandu – Transfer to Hotel
After breakfast, we drive back to Kathmandu, enjoying the scenic countryside along the way. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel.
The evening is free for rest, shopping, or exploring the city. Overnight stay: Hotel in Kathmandu.
Final Departure
Our representative will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport according to your flight schedule for your final departure, marking the end of the unforgettable Manaslu Circuit Trek.
