Manasalu circuit trek

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of the most rewarding and scenic trekking experiences in Nepal offering an exceptional journey around the Manaslu Conservation Area and providing breathtaking views of Mount Manaslu (8,163 m) the eighth-highest mountain in the world. Known for its pristine landscapes rich culture and fewer crowds this trek is an excellent choice for trekkers seeking a more remote and authentic Himalayan adventure.
Often considered a perfect alternative to the Annapurna Circuit the Manaslu Circuit Trek typically takes 13 days starting from Maccha Khola and ending at Besisahar. For those with additional time the itinerary can be extended up to 22 days by including the culturally rich Tsum Valley side trek. Flanked by the Annapurna Range to the west and Ganesh Himal to the east Mount Manaslu stands as one of the most graceful and striking peaks among the 8,000-meter giants.
Unlike popular trekking routes such as the Everest Base Camp Trek the Manaslu Circuit remains relatively quiet due to its restricted status. This limited access preserves the region’s natural beauty and traditional lifestyle making the trek both culturally enriching and scenically captivating. However the remoteness and terrain make it physically demanding requiring good fitness and preparation.
The trail begins in the warm lowlands passing through terraced fields of rice and millet before entering the dramatic gorges of the Budi Gandaki River. Along the way trekkers encounter stunning waterfalls turquoise rivers and some of the longest and highest suspension bridges in Nepal. Seasonal monsoon rains often reshape the landscape adding an element of adventure as trekkers navigate rugged trails and natural crossings.
Opened to trekkers in 1992 with a limited number of permits issued each year the Manaslu Circuit Trek still feels like a pioneering expedition. It offers a glimpse into what trekking in Nepal was like decades ago raw challenging and deeply rewarding. As the trail ascends northward toward the Tibetan border the scenery gradually transforms into alpine terrain culminating at the snow-covered Larkya La Pass (5,167 m / 16,952 ft).
Crossing Larkya La Pass is the most challenging and exhilarating part of the trek. The ascent typically begins early in the morning to avoid strong winds and micro crampons are often used due to icy conditions. Despite the physical challenge and altitude the panoramic views from the pass are truly unforgettable.
After descending from the pass trekkers are rewarded with one of the most spectacular vistas in the Himalayas. A vast glacial cirque unfolds framed by towering peaks such as Cheo Himal Himlung Himal Nemjung Gyaji Kang Kang Guru with Annapurna II rising majestically ahead. This extraordinary landscape alone makes the Manaslu Circuit Trek a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The trek can be comfortably completed using teahouse accommodation with basic yet welcoming lodges available along the route. Camping is only required for off-route or special exploratory sections. With its unmatched scenery cultural richness and sense of true adventure the Manaslu Circuit Trek remains one of Nepal’s finest trekking journeys.
